Terms of Service
Last updated: July 12, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Yearspan (the "Service"), a private, browser-based retirement and financial planning application operated by [LEGAL ENTITY — e.g. Yearspan LLC] ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Yearspan models retirement and financial-planning scenarios — projections, taxes, Roth conversions, Social Security, RMDs, IRMAA, and Monte Carlo analysis. It is a planning and educational tool. It is not tax, legal, accounting, or investment advice, and we are not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, or fiduciary. See our Not Financial Advice notice.
2. Your plan data stays on your device
Your financial plan is stored only in your browser (on your device) and is encrypted at rest. We never receive or store your plan data. We hold only the account and key material needed to unlock it — "a key to data we never possess." Details are in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups; the Service provides plaintext and encrypted export at any time.
3. Eligibility & accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
- You are responsible for the security of your account credentials, passkeys, and recovery codes, and for all activity under your account.
- Because your data and its encryption key are tied to your account, losing access to all of your sign-in methods and recovery codes may make your locally stored plan unrecoverable. Keep a backup.
4. Subscriptions, trial & billing
- New accounts include a 30-day free trial that begins at email verification. No payment method is required to start the trial.
- After the trial, continued access requires a paid subscription: [$99 / year] or [$12 / month], plus applicable taxes. Prices may change on notice for future billing periods.
- Payments and subscription management are handled by our authorized reseller and merchant of record, Paddle. Paddle's buyer terms also apply to your purchase. Your subscription renews automatically until canceled.
- You can cancel or request a refund per our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
5. Access, offline use & entitlement
Access to unlock your encrypted data is granted while your trial or subscription is active, plus a limited offline grace period. If your entitlement lapses, you will still be able to export your data, but modeling features may be locked until you reconnect or renew.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) reverse engineer, resell, or misrepresent the Service; (b) attempt to breach its security or another user's account; (c) use it for unlawful purposes; or (d) circumvent subscription or entitlement controls.
7. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Projections are estimates based on assumptions and published data that will change; actual results will differ. We do not warrant that the Service is error-free or that any projection is accurate or suitable for your situation.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or financial outcomes arising from your use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service and cancel at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms or non-payment. Your locally stored data remains on your device; export it before you lose entitlement if you wish to keep working with it elsewhere.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms; material changes will be communicated by email or in-app. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [STATE/COUNTRY — to be set with counsel], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. [Dispute-resolution / arbitration terms to be finalized with counsel.]
